Frequently Asked Questions about Block Therapy

Got questions?

GOOD!

Here are the answers to the most common questions, but please do make contact if something isn't clear.

How long does Block Therapy last?

Each session is 45-60 minutes, there are 6 or 12 sessions in the programme.

Do I need to attend every session?

I ask all participants to commit to the whole programme, this ensures that everyone gets equal turns at the three roles, and is how everyone gets the most from the programme.  But LIFE HAPPENS, if you can't make a week, no-one will be mad!

What will I make?

Each week I will introduce a new project to build, or maybe two if they are quickly completed.  I have a range of branded and non-branded kits that are suitable from Age 6+.

What happens with the completed model?

I will take a photo of it, I will arrange the dis-assembling of the model after the session.  If your parents/carers are on-site, you can show them the model before you leave.

Do I have to talk?

This programme does require you to communicate (speaking, gestures, listening) with each other to build the model collaboratively.

Can I use my teeth?

No, this can damage your teeth and is a choking hazard, I have a LEGO Separator tool, your fellow team-members can help, and I can help you if needed.

What if I get impatient or frustrated during the session?

Your safety and comfort is my priority - the overriding rule in these sessions is KINDNESS. You will be encouraged to take a break (as a whole group). It can be frustrating building kits in this way, but it is helping you to learn some important life skills.  There is a strict "no throwing" policy for the bricks.

Who is Block Therapy suitable for?

  • Suggested age (for the kits) is 6+
  • People on the Autistic Spectrum or who struggle with Social Communication
  • Siblings who may not work together well or who struggle to play together
  • Children and adults

Who is it NOT suitable for?

  • A child under 5
  • People who are physically unable to handle small bricks
  • People with PDA traits

What is the commitment?

  • 45-60 minute session at same place and time each week for the length of the programme
