1-2-1 Drawing & Talking to Support Transition

UK Literature reveals between 1-5% of the school population are absent from school due to emotional reasons (Elliot, 1999; Egger et al., 2003, Pellegrini, 2007, Guildford & Miller, 2015, Katz et al., 2016, Elliott & Place, 2019)

Key transition points within education (5-6 years old and 11-13 years old) have been highlighted as peak periods for school avoidance behaviours (Pellegrini, 2007; King et al., 2001).

Many people struggle with change.

Many children find the transition from relatively small primary school to large, busy secondary schools with multiple teachers and rooms in one day very difficult, particularly post-pandemic.

Add to that the loss of some friends going elsewhere, longer days, more independence and the "goodbye" to their past school of 7 years for some...

Drawing & Talking is a gentle 1-2-1 and face-to-face therapeutic intervention that is client-led.

It is available using Pencil & Paper or Sand Play, for age 4+.

Available in Coventry.

Transition Support spaces are available running from end of May for 12 weekly sessions.

Available after school (from 4pm) or on Saturdays term-time, an alternative session can be agreed during the Summer break.

This technique is rooted in Attachment Theory, at a time when the young people are experiencing change and loss.
