March 2025
BLOG
Emails regarding Year 7 Secondary School places arrived beginning of March!
My BLOG this month is about how we can support this move, and what to do if you are not happy with your allocated school.
Transition is Hard
Big changes are difficult. Post-covid, more and more children and young people experience anxiety around attending school and crowds.
Emotionally Based School Avoidance is on the rise, and the most common time for this to become a real issue is the transition into Year 7.
Schools Transition Programme
This programme is available for Secondary Schools. It aims to do more for transition than building familiarisation and showcasing of exciting practical lessons.
It aims to build CONNECTION with new peers and new staff. So BIG SCHOOL feels safe from the start.
If you are not happy with your allocated school...
Finding out your child didn’t get their preferred school can be disappointing, but don’t worry—there are still options! Here’s what you can do next:
- Stay Positive – Your child will take cues from you, so reassure them that great opportunities still lie ahead.
- Research the Assigned School – It may have more to offer than you think!
- Consider an Appeal – If you believe a mistake was made or have exceptional circumstances, appealing may be an option.
- Join the Waiting List – Spots can open up as other families make decisions.
- Explore Other Schools – Sometimes, the best fit isn’t the first choice!
- Get Expert Support – Tiger’s Eye Advocacy Service can guide you through the appeals process, helping you build a strong case and improve your chances of success.
Every journey is different, but with the right support and mindset, your child can still thrive!
